Ten Years of Excellence 2008 – 2018

We are RCAP, the Rosseau Culture and Arts Project, a non-profit organization, based in the Village of Rosseau,  where Muskoka meets Parry Sound. Our mandate is to foster cultural, artistic, academic and related activities with the goal of creating an atmosphere that promotes the development of an economically sustainable arts destination.

“DESTINATION ROSSEAU” is our annual festival throughout the months of July & August featuring live professional theatre, art exhibits, concerts, comedy nights, and films. This year we are happy to expand our festival to Parry Sound and will be branding that portion of the events as “P.S. I LOVE YOU”.

We began in 2001 as the ad hoc group, Muskoka Theatre Project, founded by playwright /TV personality Vince Grittani, and quickly grew into an award-winning professional company.

Our main focus has been the creation of original productions. To date, all our productions have been success stories in their own right. “Scenes From My Dock”, has had several productions in Muskoka and elsewhere by other companies in Ontario.  “Quiet! I’m Talking”, one of our most popular plays has been produced not only by MTP but by Pullchain Theatre in Sault Ste. Marie, The Espanola Players and Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton. It is soon to be a major motion picture “The GrassWidow”.  Our musical “Wake Me When It’s Over!” won the Brampton Flower City New Play award. Our golf musical “Scenes From The 19thHole” wowed audiences with two separate productions…And all of these projects originated right in the Village of Rosseau.

RCAP was established in 2008 as the cultural umbrella under which The Muskoka Theatre Project is now administered. In 2009 it produced a revival production of “19th Hole” at the Rosseau Memorial Hall and The Orillia Opera House. In 2010 and 2011, in conjunction with Independent Concert Productions, MTP created and premiered the national tour of “The Magic of Ireland”.

In 2013, RCAP opened the TWG Gallery in its home base. It is an integrated showcase for both local and regional artists. It will remain open year-round and will be presenting a series of art appreciation events including an annual “Paint The Town – Rosseau” and  “A Day in the Life of Rosseau”, an exhibit at the gallery. We also initiated the Rosseau Academy of Arts and Practical Science. This summer we presented “The Art of Science”, a hands-on workshop for children.

For 2014 we  presented 2 months of solid activity with our festival “Destination Rosseau”  In 2015-16 we expanded our activity to  the Town of Parry Sound with a pop-up theatre and presentation of “Scenes from My Dock!”

We continue to explore new cultural activities including the 4th Annual Muskoka Film Festival, My Muskoka (a mass recording of an original song) and The Artists’ Way, retirement housing for artists.
